Amend the Constitution and make Health Care a right for all US Citizens?

If you are reading this you probably saw one or more of your FB friends post as their status update yesterday something along the lines of ‘no one should die because they can’t afford access to health care”. Anyone with some compassion will find that hard to refute. If one takes that position another question you should ask is, “Is health care a right, or not, as determined by the set of rights granted in the US Constitution?” I think that currently the answer is pretty clearly “no”, just like there is no right to shelter, or food, which arguably might logically be prioritized ahead of any desired right to health care. Of course, asking “is it” is different from “should it be” and for all of your facebookers that posted as noted above, I suggest the following:

Contact your legislative representative and ask them to start working on amending the Constitution to make Health Care a bona fide right for all US citizens.

Post this everywhere….
